Kloud Komix: Volume 1

Been a long time since I last posted something here... Anyway, you can now hold Kloud Komix (my webcomic strip about cloud formations over Manila) in your hands! 26 pages of cloudiness.  You can give it to kids as a coloring book. Suicide Squid

One day, Josel Nicolas and I were discussing the merits of John Ostrander's Suicide Squad run, which we haven't read (hahahaha!) & Micheal Fiffe's superhero comic Copra. When suddenly, Josel blurted out... "SUICIDE SQUID!" & suggested I create a character out of the name. So after taking a few days off of drawing Attack Bear pages. Here he is...

Design influenced by Rob Liefeld (because a human / squid hybrid needs them shoulder pads & pouches) & Fiffe's stuff. Tried spoofing those U.S. Army - Army of One ads that appeared in early 2000 / mid-2000 comic books. This guy will be appearing soon in the Yeti Crab comic...

My favorite samurai from the movie... the cool, calm, man-of-few-words, bad-ass, Kyūzō! Played by Seiji Miyaguchi. Poster number 2.

My second favorite Kurosawa movie. Of all the Kuroswa films I've seen him in, Kambei Shimada (the leader of the seven) is probably Takashi Shimura's best role. He played the cool, grizzled, battle-hardened-but-wise samurai to a T.

Wasn't doing anything productive in the office today so I drew this... more brush pen fun (added the text using MS Word & some little touch ups using MS Paint)! Yes, I have a man-crush on Yojimbo. I love the movie (& Akira Kurosawa) to bits! Inspired by seeing Eric Bonhomme's amazing Kurosawa posters.

Another poster for Baro Investigations... sort of lost my momentum drawing pages. Needed to get motivated again. Been looking at film noir / 40's - 60's movie posters & they are inspiring! Particularly these Polish movie posters from the 40's - 80's.
